Trypan blue solution, 0.4% in PBS (phosphate buffered saline), is a routinely used cell stain to distinguish between live and dead cells. Healthy viable cells do not absorb trypan blue, while damaged cells are permeable and take up the dye. This way, only dead cells can be counted.
Applications: Use to detect dead and dying cells in cytotoxicity assays and for routine assessment of cell viability and proliferative assays.
